Actually, ecollar training will save your dog’s life.
When I talked about this last time in a reel, I had some comments from well-meaning people that were in essence, saying that I wouldn't need an #ecollar if I didn't put my dog in such dangerous positions like off leash areas, places with sheep, etc.
🛣️ Actually, unless you live on an idyllic 50 acre farm that you never leave and that is fully fenced, there are hazards EVERYWHERE. In the US, cars and highways are some of a #sighthound owner's biggest fears. When you can't recall your dog and your dog can run multiple blocks in just a few seconds, you literally only have seconds between them slipping out the door and potentially being run over.
With the ecollar, you can teach them to respect and wait at open doors, to looking to you automatically for permission before running off, to giving them a meaningful consequence for ignoring a recall.
🐑 And again, (apologies for sounding like a broken record here), sheep are EVERYWHERE in the UK. You can't walk down a country road in the midlands without seeing sheep. So I might as well take my dogs somewhere that's a prettier hike! 🌄
🏘️ It sucks that our dogs are bred for running far and fast and yet we live in a world with fences and roads. It sucks that they have instincts to chase and kill and there are laws against them fulfilling those instincts in many places. But you cannot hide yourself away from the world and yet also give your sighthound a good life.
🌱 I am not here to convince all of you to ecollar train your dogs. I am here to remind you of the BEAUTY and the NECESSITY of getting outside with your sighthound, whether you are on lead or off lead. 🌳The ecollar just elevates the on-leash outdoor skills we have, to make it even MORE safe for your dog to have MORE freedom.
❓ Why train with the ecollar if you can train recall without? Because they are a seatbelt. If you're not driving very far then sure, maybe you don't care that much about seatbelts. But for those of us who want to wander and explore the furthest reaches of the world with our dogs, you bet your ass I'm putting my seatbelt on.
